However, if you have a major wasp problem with multiple nests across the property, or need a large paper bag wasp nest to be eliminated, we will need to carry out a specialist wasp treatment, which can be an add on to a general pest treatment or a standalone treatment. Although we will eliminate any wasp nests we treat, we do not provide a warranty against wasps building a new nest on the property.

Wasp Control and Wasp Nest Removal FAQ
To exterminate a wasp nest, a professional wasp treatment is often the best solution, as a professional pest manager will have the specialist products and safety equipment to exterminate the wasp nest quickly and safely. For obvious reasons it is best to treat wasp nests from a distance and avoid standing on ladders to do so. Professional pest managers can access products with a long spray distance and have the necessary safety gear they can wear just in case.
When treating an exposed wasp nest it is important to thoroughly soak the nest within a second or two, to prevent the wasps getting angry and attacking. For enclosed nests, such as the yellow brown paper wasp and European wasp (in southern states of Australia), it is often necessary to spray or blow powder through the small nest opening. This requires more application equipment and definitely wearing protective safety gear due to the aggressive nature of these wasps.
It is relatively easy to removal and dispose of wasp nests from exposed positions once they have been exterminated. It should possible to simply knock them down by breaking their attachment point. (Make sure the nest is complete dead before doing this or you will get some very angry wasps!). Once the nest is on the ground, wear gloves to pick up the nest, place in a bag and put in the bin. It may be necessary to use a ladder to reach some nests. For nests in roof voids, they can also be knockdown and removed. For nests that are inside wall voids, they may need to be left in place.
Types of Wasps in Brisbane
There are several different types of paper wasps in Brisbane. Most are native paper wasps, although we also have the Asian paper wasp, which looks very similar. We are lucky in that we don’t have the invasive and dangerous European wasp in Brisbane, as it’s too warm and humid. It is only found from mid NSW and south to Tasmania.
There are several different types of paper wasps in Brisbane. The most common two species of wasps are the Australian paper wasp and Asian paper wasp (invasive). They both build open nests supported by a stalk, hanging in sheltered location. They can develop into an nest of a couple of hundred individuals. These wasps will give a nasty sting but generally won’t attack unless disturbed.
There are also Ropalida paper wasps – the stick nest brown paper wasp and the yellow brown paper wasp, which builds large nests in trees that resemble a large paper bag. The yellow brown paper wasp is a very aggressive paper wasp and is best left to professionals to destroy and remove.
Potter and mud dauber wasps are solitary wasps. They build their nests on sheltered surfaces. Their nests are a series of individual cells made out of mud in which they place a paralysed caterpillar or spider, on which they lay a single egg. The prey acts as a supply of fresh food for the larva. The adult wasp should be sprayed when seen and the mud nest knocked off the wall when dry and physically destroyed. Spraying mud nests can leave a mess on the wall.
How to Prevent Wasps Building their Nests?
It is virtually impossible to prevent wasps building their nests as they could build their nests in a variety of locations around your building and yard. However, a general pest treatment will reduce the chances of wasps building their nest on the outside of the building as they won’t build their nests whilst there is insecticide on a surface. Having a general pest treatment at the start of spring, when wasps are looking to build there nests is therefore an optimal time to minimise potential wasp nest building.
